the end / SPRING BREAK: Opening Reception

Join us Saturday May 11th from 5–9pm for the opening of the end / SPRING BREAK featuring performances by SEF, doris dana, and Romulo del Castillo. This event is free and open to the public, performances start at 6pm.

_Romulo Del Castillo is one of the most prominent figures in Miami’s electronic scene as well as America’s IDM scene. In the late 90’s he and his musical partner Joshua Kay founded Schematic Music Company releasing artists such as Autechre, Richard Devine, Push Button Objects, Prefuse 73 and lots more. To this day he continues to run the label putting on young IDM and left field acts from all over. Miami legend, by way of Lima, Peru, Del Castillo helped put the city on the map as a destination for electronic music and its makers. Del Castillo is one half of Soul Oddity (Astralwerks) which later morphed into Phoenecia (Warp). More recently, Del. Castillo has been focusing on DJing the influences that shaped his own sound and curatorial ear.

_doris dana, the sound project of Colombian-born artist Mónica Mesa, delves into the abstract aesthetic of liminal spaces. Through a blend of electronics, processed hyper-layered electro-acoustic improvisations, field recordings, and snippets of dialogues, doris dana seeks to recreate memories. As the second half of the duo bad lsd trips, their album of the same name was previously released via enmossed and Psychic Liberation. To date doris dana has released three full-length albums, including “improvisaciones” (2020/self-released), “cinematic memories” (2021/Impresión), and “sentimental atmospheres” (2022/Noir Age). Currently, they are working on their fourth album, “reveries,” to be released via Glasgow-based label, Somewhere Press, as well as their second album as bad lsd trips with Domingo Castillo titled “ultrafest,” slated to be released via enmossed later this year.

_SEF orbits within sonic realms that immerse texture in space. Imbuing digital frequencies with touches of analog warmth, he creates sonic landscapes that embrace the interplay between
smoothness and frangibility. Originally from Bushwick, SEF’s recent years in the subtropics
have led him to explore a myriad of samples and field recordings from southern sceneries,
intertwining them with the hard edges of his native city’s glitches. SEF finds solace in the
absence of rules, finding beauty in the unpredictability of the creative process. His music aims
to transcend the confines of conventional structures, embracing the fluidity of time and space.
